The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Bikol (BFAR Bikol) through the Fisheries Production and Support Services Division (FPSSD) in collaboration with the National Seaweed Technology Development Center (NSTDC) conducted a training on seaweed culture for seaweed farmers in Manito, Albay on July 30-31,2024, in response to the request of Albay Representative Joey Salceda.
The training aimed to introduce farmers to the latest technologies in seaweed farming, covering new trends and advancements in seaweed culture. Additionally, the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD) provided financial literacy training through the “Fish N’ Learn” program, which is designed to enhance financial awareness among fisherfolk.
This training initiative, in coordination with the Provincial Fisheries Office of Albay (PFO-Albay) and LGU Manito-Municipal Agriculture Office, highlights the ongoing efforts to support and empower seaweed farmers in the region, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable seaweed farming practices.
