BULA, CAMARINES SUR --- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource once again invites high school graduating (Grade 12) students and high school graduates in the old curriculum who are children of registered fisherfolk or who belongs to the top ten of his/her graduating class to apply for the 2019 Nationwide Competitive Examination for the two Fisheries Scholarship Program (FSP) Grants – the 11th Batch Fisherfolk Children Education Grant (FCEG) and 24th Batch of Fisheries Industrial Leaders Grant (FILG).

Twenty (20) slots are allotted to the children of fisherfolk while three (3) slots for those who belong to the top ten of their graduating class in Bicol region. The 23 scholars will take the four-year course of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries in the approved State Universities and Colleges in the country.

The scholars may enroll at the Central Luzon State University, Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija; Cebu Technological University – Carmen Campus, Cebu; Bicol University Tabaco Campus, Tabaco City, Albay; Camarines Norte State College – Mercedes Campus, Mercedes, Camarines Norte; Partido State University – Sagñay Campus, Sagñay, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon State College – Magallanes Campus, Magallanes, Sorsogon.

They will receive a monthly stipend of Php4,000.00; Semestral book allowance of Php2,000.00; On-the-Job Training Support amounting to Php3,000.00; Research Thesis Support/Special Problem Support of Php7,000.00 and; Php1,500 Graduation Support.

The applicant must be a natural-born Filipino citizen, not more than 25 years old and has not earned any unit in college.

BFAR Bikol Regional Director Dennis V. Del Socorro believes that the scholarship grant is one of the prime assistance the government can provide to the fisherfolk sector to uplift their lives from poverty. Moreover, to develop competitive Fisheries graduates that can contribute in the future of the fishing industry in the country. 

Interested applicants may visit the BFAR Regional Office No. 5 in Fabrica, Bula, Camarines Sur or in any BFAR Provincial Fisheries Office in the region to request for the application forms. The deadline for submission of Application Forms with complete requirements is on November 12, 2018.

The competitive examination will be on January 12, 2019 to be conducted in the designated areas in the six provinces of Bicol region which will be announced later.

The previous competitive examination was conducted last February 24, 2018 at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Pili, Camarines Sur and at the Bicol University Tabaco Campus, Tabaco City, Albay.

At present, the BFAR5 has 21 graduating scholars and 22 first year scholars enrolled at the six universities/colleges. (kathleenannhilotin)
