Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (BASIL)

BFAR’s BASIL program aims to revive the country’s lake and rivers by  enhancing the production of our inland waters and to limit overfishing by  providing a more desirable fish stock. One of the activities of the Bureau is to  conduct massive seeding of fish in inland bodies of water. In 2023, a total of  7 groups are expected to be the recipients and 111 management areas are  targeted to be enhanced under the BASIL program. One of the target areas of BASIL is those upland and landlocked areas that are  deficient in fish supply. Lakes and reservoirs are the main source of food and  livelihood of small fisherfolk since these can be potential sources of fish  production and socio-economic advancement.
